Many office-based workers do not realise that the environment they spend a majority of their working week in, may not be good for their health. Have you ever experienced headaches, respiratory infections, asthma or fatigue? Do these ailments occur at work? What happens when you go on holiday or at the weekends, do they still occur or do they miraculously disappear? You'll often find people's desk drawers contain a variety of pills and potions to alleviate the ailments they experience at work. John's Story John commenced work in a large open plan office a few months ago. He had been promoted from Team Leader in another division to the Manager of this new department. Since that time he has been continually unwell.
He went on holiday for two weeks and all his ailments disappeared. A week later he returned to work and again he became sick. This of course greatly affected his productivity because when you feel unwell you don't feel like doing much work?no matter how motivated you usually are. Further investigation revealed that absenteeism in this department was high. People would often be away sick.
John discovered the whole office had not had a thorough clean in two years?the carpet needed steam cleaning, the blinds had spider webs and thick dust, the partitions which divided the workstations had never been vacuumed. John immediately organised for the entire office to be cleaned from floor to ceiling. I also suggested that he contact the local nursery to install plants in specific areas. Not only do plants make the environment look good, they assist with air filtration. When I spoke to John again, he said he was feeling much better? and so did many of his colleagues! Robyn's Story Robyn is the Human Resources Manager in a computer company.
She began experiencing bad asthma attacks since moving to her open plan area. She discovered that the office partitions had never been cleaned since their installation many years ago. The dust was exacerbating her condition. She has since had them thoroughly cleaned and her asthma has subsided! Sally's Story At an on-site workshop I ran for a telecommunications company, one of the participants told us that her previous employer made a cost-cutting decision ? to remove all the plants from the office. They had a contract with a plantscaping organisation and thought this would be an easy way to save money.
Within 6 weeks there was a noticeable increase in absenteeism through sickness. (And there wasn't a flu epidemic at that time). Save Time, Save Money, Save Yourself If you want to save time and money and most importantly your health, look at the environment you work in.Check out some of these areas and ask yourself or whoever is the most appropriate person: When was the last time the following was cleaned and is there an ongoing maintenance programme ?Ducted heating Air-conditioning Fans Caf? There is again no sure-fire way to prevent all hair loss; however, there are some methods that have been used that work on some people. In addition to the dietary improvements and suggestions already offered, there are some naturopathic remedy suggestions. Massage and aromatherapy have been used with some success. In minor cases of temporary hair loss, hair growth can be stimulated by massage, since blood and oxygen flow to the scalp must be healthy in order for hair to grow. A blend of six drops each of lavender and bay essential oils in a base of four ounces of either almond, soybean or sesame oil massaged into the scalp and allowed to sit for 20 minutes has been used by aroma therapists to stimulate the scalp.
Once the mixture is in the scalp for 20 minutes, wash your hair and scalp with your normal shampoo mixed with three drops of bay essential oil. Massaging the scalp in general for a couple of minutes a day can stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles and in mild cases...

Small Home Appliances
Can you picture yourself in your den living a life without wires? Hair dryers to egg beaters, who say diamonds, are woman's best friends? Remember the primitive days when your community slogged and toiled to make everyone happy in the family? The less electricity and space consuming devices are indispensable to a modern woman's existence and especially to single parents (fathers are you listening?).
With the coffee makers brewing the strong, frothy, smooth coffee and vacuum cleaners eating up dog's hair without giving you sneezes the benefits of small appliances are obvious. With Mon Uncle winning best film in 1958 by Jacques Tati, the world knew that the old irksome tasks were soon to be a thing of the past. Electric sewing machines, can openers, hand blenders and knife sharpeners are things your grand mothers could only dream of. Brooms look good only in the witchcraft movies, they must be replaced by handy vacuum cleaners in the real life or we will have a hair pulling...
20 Gas & Electric Money Savings Tips
Did you get sticker shock when you opened your last utility bill? If you did, you're not alone. People have reported huge increases in their energy bills. My gas bill went up about 40%, so I decided to make my home more energy efficient. You would be surprised just how much you can lower your utility bills by taking a few of these simple steps. Here are 20 quick and easy tips: Close the heating vents.
Closing the heating vents or radiators in an unoccupied room can save 5-10% on your heating costs. Close the fireplace flue. Don't let heat go up the chimney. Make sure the fireplace flue is closed when not in use. Turn off the pilot light.
A pilot light typically costs $3-$5 per month to keep lit. If your heating system has a pilot light, turn it off during the summer. Fix that leaking faucet. A faucet leaking a single drip per second can waste 400 gallons of water a year. Besides being a tremendous environmental waste, if that water is heated it will cost you about $8 if...

Anyone can write and record songs even without playing an instrument. Idols hopefuls now have a better change of success when they master the art of song writing. Songs are composed by singing or humming melodies using a microphone. Portions of the melody can be re-recorded until the user is satisfied with the end result.
Lyrics and chords are then entered and synchronized with the music. The final vocals are recorded 'Karaoke style' while the music is playing. The program provides step-by-step guidance throughout the song writing process. The software generates backtracks based on chord progressions from previously popular hit songs. This method of 'music first, then lyrics' is applied by most leading songwriters in the world.Upcoming artists...

Hitting The Fan
In the past people have occasionally accused me of talking shit. But nobody can say I'm not serious about my subject. In fact you could say I have a Masters degree in coprology! In recent months I have been busy writing a paper (toilet paper, obviously) entitled "What Really Happens When the Shit Hits the Fan ?". Clearly one needs to define one's terms and my approach was as scientific as it could be.Firstly I decide to confine my researches to three types of fan:i) Electric fansii) Cricket and/or football fans (depending on which one is in season at the time) andiii) Hand held fans i.e. Of the kind which is fluttered by demure young ladies in period dramas Secondly there was a need to be able to grade various kinds of shit according to size, weight, malleability and viscosity.
This required the use of expensive scientific instruments and so I equipped myself with -electronic scales, a pestle and mortar, an engineer's measure, a sieve, packet of rubber gloves shower cap and safety...
